George Clooney has strongly urged Joe Biden to withdraw from the US presidential race, following Nancy Pelosi's avoidance of questions regarding Biden's candidacy earlier today.

The Hollywood actor and influential Democratic Party supporter

remarked that while the president has triumphed in numerous battles throughout his career, "the battle against time is one he cannot win." His remarks followed Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, expressing growing concern within the party, emphasizing that time is "rapidly diminishing" for Mr. Biden to make a decision about continuing his campaign against Donald Trump following his disastrous debate performance. Despite this, the president has reiterated his determination to persist as the Democratic party's candidate and defeat Trump in November.

Clooney wrote in The New York Times that it was "heartbreaking to admit," but the Mr. Biden he encountered at a recent fundraising event three weeks ago was not the "'Joe 'big ****ing deal' Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020."

"He was the same man we all saw during the debate," Clooney added.

The Los Angeles fundraising event set a single-night record, bringing in approximately $30 million (£23.3 million) for the Biden campaign.

"Our party leaders must refrain from telling us that 51 million people did not witness what we just witnessed."

"This is purely about age," he continued. "Nothing else. With this president, we won't succeed in November."

Clooney went on to mention that his concerns were echoed by "every" member of Congress he had consulted.

In response, Mr. Biden's campaign referenced a letter the president had sent to Democrats in Congress, asserting his unwavering commitment to his candidacy and defeating Trump.

Nevertheless, dissent within Mr. Biden's party continues to escalate as he faces scrutiny while hosting the NATO summit in Washington.
