A man has been arrested following the discovery of human remains in suitcases.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murder after human remains were discovered in suitcases at Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. The arrest took place at Temple Meads Station in Bristol early on Saturday, carried out by armed officers from Avon and Somerset.

Authorities have confirmed that the remains found both in the suitcases and at a flat in Shepherd's Bush, west London, belong to two men. Forensic investigators, clad in blue suits, masks, and gloves, are continuing their examination of the crime scene at Scott's Road, where the area has been extended by 33 feet (10 meters).

Near a set of bins outside an estate off Scott's Road, forensic teams were observed working, with one member documenting the area with photographs. To maintain privacy, three police vehicles were strategically positioned to block the view beyond the cordon.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine of the Metropolitan Police described the arrest as "a significant development." He acknowledged the concerns of local communities in Bristol and London, reassuring residents that officers would continue their presence in Clifton and Shepherd's Bush to provide support following this tragic incident.

"Anyone with concerns is encouraged to approach them."

Earlier, the Metropolitan Police issued a statement seeking to speak with Yostin Andres Mosquera. Authorities have confirmed they are not seeking any other individuals, and the man apprehended at Temple Meads Station is being transported to London for questioning.

At just before midnight on Wednesday, Avon and Somerset Police received a report of a man behaving suspiciously with a suitcase on the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Responding officers arrived within 10 minutes, but the man had departed, abandoning the suitcases. A second suitcase was discovered nearby.

The Metropolitan Police assumed control of the investigation after human remains were found in a flat in west London. Authorities have stated that formal identification of the two victims has not yet been completed.

A 36-year-old man who was arrested in Greenwich, south-east London on Friday in connection with the investigation has since been released without charge.

The community is reeling in shock.

In Bristol, residents have expressed to the BBC that the incident has deeply shocked the community. Gemma Osborne, manager of Hart's Bakery near Temple Meads Station, remarked that the news feels uncomfortably close to home.

"It’s always concerning, especially with our early start times, ensuring everyone’s safety on their way to work," she said. "It has left me feeling quite unsettled. Even though such occurrences are rare, it’s hard not to be affected by it and reflect on the implications."
